                                                 WEEK IN REVIEW

                                                         02/03/2010

After the customary opening ceremonies, we enjoyed a delicious lunch and great Rotary Fellowship.  PE Julie introduced Visiting Rotarian, Al Carignan, of Saco Bay and Owen of ??  Guests were Stephanie Desjardins and Matt Forcier.   Nice to see some change in seat-ery.  The back table usually occupied by the "young guns" welcomed Bernice and Chuck was surrounded by, as the late J. Richard Martin was known to say, a table of "lovelies."

Phil D is still on vacation and once again we were left without a Foundation Moment :-(    VP Frank Du reported that 592 cases of fruit were ordered by Club members.  "Orange" you glad he kept squeezing us for results.  The Auction is underway and everything is in order.  Earl "the hammer" Goodwin hit us with the facts.  Of 61 members, 8 have turned in stuff so far for a total of 105 items.  If I heard correctly..... ( I interrupt this TACK to plead my case.  It's very difficult sometimes to hear what people are saying when others are talking.  Let's give the speaker our undivided attention which will also allow the reporter to take accurate notes. Thanks) .... We now resume the TACK.....Earl said we have 6 of 50 BIG Boards sold.  We need to hustle!  Don't get nailed by the SAA!

Papa Kany reminded us that our meeting of the 10th will be held at YCCC in Wells.  He also thanked the Club for our donation of $500 to Mary's Walk.  This very worthwhile fundraiser is only 5 weeks away.  Walk, run, stroll, and be sure to donate $$$.

Secretary Dawn reported January's attendance at 68%.  Seems Club Assemblies generate the highest turnout.  New member Kim Girard is out on a medical LOA.  Get well soon Kim!  We all miss you.  Questions have been raised as to what the Club is doing for Haiti Relief.  Ideas are being discussed and more info will be coming.  Stay tuned.

24, 31, 17, 21, 45 BINGO!!!!  PE Julie announced that the 2nd annual PolioPlus Bingo fundraiser has been scheduled for May 8th at the Rochambeau Club.  Mark your calendar as volunteers as well as players will be needed.  Charitable requests approved at the recent Board meeting included the previously mentioned $500 for Mary's Walk, $845 to a disabled woman who needed hand controls for her car, and $300 to the Community Bicycle Center.  The Company B Fund donated $2,600 to the Saco Community Gardens and $1,667 which is the 1st installment of a 3 year pledge of $5,000 to TA's Paul Hill Stadium project.  The 50/50 of $39 was won by ticket holder #7168 Jim Audiffred.

Next up was Sergeant at Arms Karen.  Proud Papa Scott was happy to report that son graduated from Ft. Benning and is off to Hawaii but then to Iraq (our thoughts and prayers will go with him); Bill, Esq. shared $5 for the Club's donation to TA; SAA Karen glad she could help daughter sell 300 boxes of Girl Scout cookies!  SAA Karen made sure Randy and Josh shared the pain of growing older, "yes, dear" was all Earl could muster as he was told to get tough, doesn't pay to drink(coffee)& drive while on a cell, right Josh? SAA Karen threw cold water on Joe's very descriptive narration of Hydie's washing of a client's hair, all the " lookin'good in my suit" folks paid the price and those who usually fly under the radar were caught this week.  Great job Karen!

This week's meeting was a Club Assembly.  Chair of the 90th Anniversary Committee, Chuck, gave us an update on the festivities scheduled for May 18-20th.  A Lobster Bake is on the agenda for late afternoon May 18.  Our Celebration Dinner including entertainment will take place on the evening of the 19th and will be instead of our lunch meeting.  Thursday, May 20, is an all-day bus trip to either the NH mountains or the Coast of ME.   Thought has been given to inviting the Scarborough Rotary Club that we sponsored and who is celebrating its 50th anniversary.  Currently there are 5 people coming from Bideford, England.  We still need to resolve how/who will be paying for these events.  This should be a really fun time and hopefully many members will participate.  Please feel free to share your thoughts with Chuck, Pres. Steve or any member of the 90th Anniversary Committee.  Thanks Chuck for all your hard work in putting this together.

Hope to see you all at York County Community College tomorrow.

Helene, Ye Editor
