Pres. Steve called the meeting to order and after the usual opening ceremony we enjoyed a fabulous buffet featuring fried Maine shrimp - yummy! In the absence of PE Julie, SAA Karen introduced Visiting Rotarians Nancy Kelley and Denis Robillard of Saco Bay and Owen ? from Illinois. No Phil = No Foundation Fact.

PP Frank - needs volunteers for telephone operators
PP George - has openings for tabulators
PP Denis - needs help with set-up Saturday @ 9 .a.m. for a few hours and take-down on Sunday @ 9 p.m.

Please do what you can to fill some of these vacancies!
Pres. Steve informed us that PE Julie is off to PETS (President-Elect Training Sessions) and will be ready and raring to go when she gets back. The District Assembly is coming up and everyone is invited to attend especially new members. Interested? See Pres. Steve. The Salvation Army sent us a Thank You note for our recent "Adopt a Family" contribution.

Our speaker was Peter Martin of Black Bear Entertainment. Some of us might remember Peter's father, John Martin, owner of the Merry Manor in So Portland. Peter was here to share information about the proposed casino in Oxford County. Black Bear Entertainment is made up of Steve Barber, former CEO of Barber Foods, Jim Boldebook of Alfred, Suzanne and Rupert Grover founders of one of Maine's best small manufacturing companies and Rob Lally, co-owner of Mt. Abram Ski Resort. Martin said that a casino will generate/or create 1000 new, good paying jobs, contribute about $32 million for education, about $4 million to ME Native American tribes, $1 million for ME agricultural fairs, and $1 million for ME dairy farmers. This will be a true resort setting on 50 acres in Western Maine and 50% of the revenues will come from out-of-state. Peter asked that we consider all the facts and vote on the referendum in November. For more details, check out www.PromoteMaine.com or call 207.221.5830. Thanks Peter for a very informative program.
