                                                            WEEK IN REVIEW

                                                                  06/16/2010

Pres. Steve called his 2nd to the last meeting to order.  Yours truly led the Patriotic song, Josh asked us to join him in the 4-Way Test and George gave a moving invocation.  We enjoyed a delicious Italian buffet!  Soon-to-be President Julie introduced Visiting Rotarians Judy Morin Past President of the Portside Club and now a member of Saco Bay; Joe Bassett of the Portland Club who's in the process of transferring to our Club and Ned Perkins of Anna Maria, FL.  Our table had the honor and pleasure of having Ned join us.  For 95 years young, he's quite a guy.   Guests included Bryan Thomas, Bruce Theriault and Guy Gagnon who is the Executive Director of the Biddeford Housing Authority.  Welcome all!

No Phil meant no Foundation Minute.

2nd Posting - Tom Lachance.  Comments should be submitted to Secretary Dawn.

It's not too late!!  Ads in the TACK are still available for $100 for the entire Rotary year.  Such a deal!! See PE Julie or Ye Editor for details.

The 50/50 was won by none other than Earl "Lucky" Goodwin.  Now if he'd only give me the winning PowerBall numbers!

Pres. Steve invited me to join him at the front of the room as we inducted our newest member, Steve Saucier.  Steve is a former Rotarian in the Rockland area and is with the Pine Tree Council Boy Scouts of America.  Please join me in welcoming Steve.  Have you noticed, we have a trio of Franks, a duo of Heathers, a couple of Keiths, a few Bills, some Jim's and now several Steve's!

I've decided I'd get the TACK done a lot quicker if the TV wasn't in the same room as my PC.  Watching "America's Got Talent" is quite a distraction.  Especially those contestants who don't got any :-)

Sergeant at Arms Karen who surely must have met her goal by now was still at it.  Happy $$ were shared by Treasurer Ken, Pres. Steve, PE Julie off to the RI Convention in Montreal, Jim C who could still recite the Boy Scout oath and SAA Karen who won a 4 hour Charter fishing trip.  All was not fine for "Mr. Lucky"  Earl, Jim G might be the Best but he was fined like the rest;  Andy had a flat for his photo in the JT;  Earl's photo as he was inducted into the Zamboni Hall of Fame was priceless, unfortunately, standing in front of a sign for Neil's Motors was not; like fish in a barrel, a table for 2 for PP's Dave and Paul proved to be easy pickins'; for Ned the bell tolled but since he didn't hear it or SAA Karen's long distance plea, smooth operator Chuck paid the

fee!

Our speaker was newly inducted member Steve Saucier, District Executive for York District BSA.  Steve first asked all who were Boy or Girl Scouts to identify themselves.  Many of us were proud to say we were scouts.  The Club has a few Eagle Scouts  too! Brian, Ron and Carl, who is also in the "Order of the Arrow" have earned this prestigious designation.  Steve thought we should all join him in song so we glady obliged.  It was a lot of fun even if I didn't understand the lyrics and appeared to bring back fond memories for some.  (Now it's Jay.  I have to finish this and get to bed.  Work tomorrow!) Steve clarified that the Scouts is not only an "outdoor program" but is designed to develop character, citizenship and fitness.  This is the 100th Anniversary of scouting.  Many things have changed during this time yet the Scout Oath and Scout Law have not.  The Boy Scouts partner with other organizations to help develop leaders.  The number 1 organization being the Mormon Church.  Cub Scouts are for boys 7-10; Boy Scouts 11-17 and Venturing 14-20.  Steve explained what each category involves.  Joining Steve was Bruce Thermal who has been with UNUM  for 26 years and still finds time to volunteer.  Bruce shared his experience these past 6 years.  Obviously the Scouts are doing something right as they have been around for 100 years!  Please see new member Steve for more info.

Thanks Steve for a great program.

This week's meeting is Awards Day.  Please try to attend to honor our recipients.

Helene, Ye Editor
